Storyline: In the 11th century, when society was suffering from caste and religious differences, Sri Ramanujacharya dedicated his life to spreading the idea that all humans are equal to the world. Having acquired spiritual knowledge by studying Vedas since childhood, he faced many challenges in the process of taking his theories to the people. Many key developments took place in his life from studying under the Yadava Prakasas in Kanchi. How did his ambition to eliminate inequalities in society and give equal respect to everyone progress? What kind of change did he want to bring about in the people with his teachings? This is the plot of the film.
Analysis: There is a great responsibility in showcasing the lives of great people on the silver screen. Their personality, thoughts, and the message they gave to the society should be brought close to the audience. In ‘Jayaho Ramanuja’, director Sai Venkat has taken up this responsibility and tried to show important moments in the life of Sri Ramanujacharya in an interesting way. The main strength of this film is its spiritual background and message. The idea of giving priority to humanity by setting aside caste and religious differences is also important for today’s society. Showing this aspect as part of the story is commendable. The scene of saving the princess of Kanchi from evil spirits will impress the audience. The graphics used for this scene provide visual appeal to the story. The way in which the Dashavatars of Lord Vishnu are shown on the screen also stands out. These scenes, which reflect the concept of devotion, are likely to be liked by the audience who like spiritual films. The pre-climax argument between the Sri Vaishnavas and Shiva devotees in the presence of Chandragiri Maharaj is another important attraction of the film. The scene where Sri Venkateswara Swamy is discussed with reference to the Ashtadasa Puranas has been made interesting. An attempt has been made to bring spiritual aspects to the audience through this scene. It is good to select important events from the life of Sri Ramanujacharya and add spirituality to them to take the story forward. If the story had progressed more quickly in some places, the audience would have had a better experience. However, the attempt to introduce the life of a great man on the silver screen has brought uniqueness to this film.
Actors’ Performance: Lion Dr. Sai Venkat impressed in the role of Sri Ramanujacharya. He appeared in the role of Sri Maha Vishnu along with the main role and created a spiritual atmosphere on the screen. His performance and dialogues in the scenes of Dashavatars contributed to the devotional feeling in the story. Joe Sharma acted to the extent of his role. Suman impressed in his own style in the role of Delhi Sultan. Pravallikaa contributed to the story by appearing in various roles. Gururaj also played a key role. The other actors did due justice to their roles.
Technical Section: The songs are the main attraction in this film. The songs, which are designed to convey the greatness and spiritual glory of Sri Ramanujacharya, provide a good support to the story. The background music also enhances the emotions and devotional atmosphere in the scenes. The cinematography is good. Some scenes created with graphics are impressive on the screen. There is an attempt to bring their ideas to the audience in terms of production values. If the editing had been more solid, the story of the film would have progressed even faster. The hint about the sequel titled ‘Avatar Ramanuja 2’ at the end of the film increases the interest. Actress Pravallika impressed by playing the roles of Krishna, Naradhu, and Raghunathaswamy.
Final Verdict: ‘Jayaho Ramanuja’ is a good attempt to convey the message of equality along with devotion and spirituality. The intention to introduce the life of Sri Ramanujacharya to the present generation, the depiction of the Dashavatars, key scenes with graphics, and message-filled songs are the main strengths of this film. The film would have been more effective if there had been more improvement in the narration and editing. However, this film is worth watching once for those who love spiritual films and want to know the details of the life of Sri Ramanujacharya. Overall.. ‘Jayaho Ramanuja’ is a good message-filled film that reminds us of equality, humanity, and spirituality.
