Recognizes her contribution to medical education (quality & excellence) in AP and Telangana
Hyderabad, 2nd November 2021: The Association of National Board Accredited Institutions (ANBAI), Telangana (TS) & Andhra Pradesh (AP) chapter honoured Dr Geeta Kolar, Senior Consultant Obstetrician and Director, Dept. of Foetal Medicine, Fernandez Hospital, recognizing her contribution to medical education in AP and Telangana. The award ceremony was held as part of the Distinguished Teachers Day event and was presided over by the ANBAI (AP & TS) President Prof. Dr. B. Balaraju & General Secretary Dr. Suresh Surapaneni. The chief guest of the event Dr. B. Karunakar Reddy, Vice Chancellor, Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal, Telangana presented the award to Dr Geeta Kolar.
Dr Geeta is a stalwart in the field of Obstetrics & Foetal Medicine with over 30-years of experience. Fascinated by the miracle of life, Dr Geeta always knew that Obstetrics was her calling. In the early 90s, she decided to sub-specialize in foetal medicine and has since become one of the most respected names in the field. She was one of the first doctors to join Fernandez Hospital, after it redefined itself as a specialist in maternal and childcare and was a part of the core committee. She established the Foetal Medicine department at Fernandez Hospital in 1998 at a time when the field was only beginning to emerge.
The department deals with the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders in the foetus and is a resounding success bringing prestige and recognition to Fernandez Hospital. Today, it trains doctors and offers fellowships in Foetal Medicine. The field of foetal medicine is one of the most rapidly evolving fields in medicine, and contributions from professionals like Dr. Geeta will be vital in the years ahead.
Dr. Geeta completed her MBBS from Osmania University in 1982, DGO from Osmania Medical College in 1987 and MD – Obstetrics & Gynaecology from Osmania Medical College in 1987. With her extensive experience, Dr Geeta is unparalleled in her interpretation of diagnostic scans. Currently, she is one of the topmost experts on foetal medicine in the country, if not the world.
